Why Come to Aesthetic Laser Care for Your Cosmelan MD Treatment?
The staff at Aesthetic Laser Care has many years of experience in treating melasma and other causes of hyperpigmentation with Cosmelan MD. We use the strongest, medical prescription grade version of Cosmelan called Cosmelan MD. Because there is no cure for melasma, our goal is to reduce your melasma by 60 to 90% in 6 to 12 weeks and then put you on a long term regimen to maintain these results.
Melasma/Hyperpigmentation is a common condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. The darkening occurs when melanin, the dark pigment that produces normal skin pigment, forms excessive deposits in the skin. This condition can be caused by sun damage, birth control pills, hormonal changes, inflammation, certain illnesses and medications. Melasma/Hyperpigmentation can affect the skin color of people of any race but is more common in Hispanics, Asians, and darker skinned ethnicities. Visit our Melasma Treatments page for more information on Melasma and other treatment options.
How is Melasma/Hyperpigmentation Treated?
Melasma/Hyperpigmentation can be treated in several ways (see treatment chart below). Cosmelan MD, is a depigmentation treatment that acts as both a chemical peel to help peel away pigmented skin cells in the outer skin, while also blocking melanin production. Melanin is the natural pigment that darkens your skin when you tan and also when you hyperpigment.
Cosmelan MD treatment is performed at our office. The Cosmelan 1 mask is applied to your face and is left on for 8 to 12 hours depending on your skin type. The mask is removed at home with water and a neutral cleanser. This is followed by a home maintenance program which consists of daily applications of the Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream. The Cosmelan 2 cream is applied about 2 or 3 times a day, for the first couple of weeks, then once daily. A maintenance bleaching regimen that is less intense can be used thereafter, or as needed to maintain your results.
How Much does the Cosmelan MD treatment Cost?
$750 includes the full Medical Grade Cosmelan MD Kit (the strongest prescription version available) and the application of the Cosmelan 1 mask in our office. A cleanser, toner and sunscreen are also included.
What Results Can Be Expected?
A significant lightening of the hyperpigmentation will be seen immediately with more gradual improvement after the peeling is done and the Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream is used over several months. While results are not permanent, much of the hyperpigmenation may remain under control for months or years as long as sun protection and maintenance bleaching creams are used.
